Branach PowerMaster vs All Terrain Extension: What’s the Difference?

If you’re comparing Branach extension ladders, the PowerMaster Extension (FED) and All Terrain Extension (FED-AT) have much in common. Both are fibreglass extension ladders built with Branach’s Strongbox construction.

The difference that matters most when choosing between them is where you need to set up. The PowerMaster is an option for sites where you can establish a suitable ladder position. The All Terrain incorporates TerrainMaster’s wider, adjustable base for work on challenging ground.

What does the PowerMaster Extension offer?

The PowerMaster Extension is Branach’s FED range. Its fibreglass box rails are designed to reduce twist and sway, while flat D-shaped rungs provide a standing surface during use. Branach lists a swivel foot that can adjust to minor slopes and grip loose ground.

That makes the PowerMaster worth considering when the task calls for an extension ladder and the team can establish an appropriate setup at the base and top. You still need to assess the ground, nearby hazards, working position and method of securing the ladder for each job.

What does the All Terrain Extension add?

The All Terrain Extension is Branach’s FED-AT range. It incorporates TerrainMaster, which provides a wider base and adjustable legs to help establish a level setup on suitable uneven ground. Branach lists an adjustable base width of 925 mm to 1440 mm, leg adjustment up to 305 mm and capacity to accommodate a slope of up to 15 degrees, subject to its instructions and the site conditions.

It may be the more suitable range to assess when crews regularly work on sloping or variable ground. The adjustable base addresses a specific setup challenge; it does not make every surface suitable for ladder use.

Is a PowerMaster with TerrainMaster the same choice?

Branach lists TerrainMaster among the available PowerMaster accessories. If you already have PowerMaster ladders, it is worth asking Branach whether your specific models can be fitted with a compatible TerrainMaster configuration, who can carry out that work and how it compares with purchasing an All Terrain ladder. Do not assume an accessory fits every ladder or that it can be installed by the user.

Questions to answer before choosing

When requesting a recommendation, give your supplier more than the height you need to reach:

  1. Where will the ladder stand? Describe slopes, soil, loose material and any changes in level.
  2. What will the ladder rest against? Identify the top contact point and any need for a compatible attachment.
  3. What is the worker doing? Include the task duration, position, tools and need to reposition.
  4. What are the site hazards? Include electrical infrastructure, traffic and restricted space.
  5. How will the ladder be transported? Check the closed dimensions and weight of the model under consideration.
  6. What load rating is required? Check the rating for the specific length, as ratings can vary across a range.

Both product pages list dimensions, weights and load ratings by model, so compare the exact sizes being quoted rather than assuming every FED and FED-AT ladder has the same specifications.

Which Branach extension ladder should you choose?

If your team usually works where an appropriate setup can be established with a PowerMaster, the FED may meet the task’s needs. If uneven or sloping ground is a regular part of the job, assess the FED-AT and its integrated TerrainMaster base.

In either case, choose the model only after assessing the complete task and site. Where a ladder cannot be set up or used appropriately, another access method may be needed.

Explore the Branach product range or contact Branach with your site conditions to discuss the right configuration.
